New Yorkers. Urban. Offbeat. Laidback. Fun-Loving. Sarcastic.
Shirley and Greg are refined New Yorkers, but they’re also offbeat in their own fun way. Greg has lived here his whole life and stayed in NYC for college. Shirley moved to New York at the age of 16 with her family, where they still live. Thus, New York is very important to their relationship. They grew up here, fell in love here, and Greg also proposed to Shirley here. He proposed in Domino Park, which is where we chose to do engagement session portraits as well. They’re both extremely focused on their careers and exude a level of polish and professionalism as a result. But underneath that, they’re saps for each other, laidback, fun-loving, and sarcastic goofballs. They don’t take life too seriously but they certainly cherish what matters, such as their parents, siblings, and close friends. And boy - do they know how to party!
Greg + Shirley managed to create a special day that is uniquely them! Shirley’s traditional a-line dress was handmade by her bridesmaid’s mother! We enjoyed the tension between her very traditional dress and untraditional, offbeat personality, and it seemed perfectly Shirley. She doesn’t want to be categorized and is simultaneously many things all at once. She wore her mother’s ring and their wedding bands were created by a family friend of the Maid of Honor. Shirley created her own floral centerpieces. She is quite clever and creative! The Brooklyn Winery is spectacular and made for photographs. The large skylight in the Atrium Room brings floods of natural light and the large window in the Portrait Room makes it an ideal location for the first look and creative portraits. All the little vintage details are interesting and creates the perfect setting for memorable photography.
On their wedding day, Shirley got ready at the beautiful Hoxton Williamsburg. After getting ready, we traveled to the venue where Shirley + Greg had their intimate first look that we directed in the Portrait Room. I must say, we did some of our best-ever creative portraits here! Later in the evening, we were in awe that snowglobe-like, soft snow began to fall right around the time we caught a break. We snuck away for some lovely nighttime portraits, where Shirley and Greg had their first unofficial dance under the moonlight with soft, fairy-tale snow. G+S proceeded to then cut the cake and danced the night away under a vintage foil ceiling!
Congratulations to this fun-loving couple! May your laughter always be heard from miles away and may you feel your love grow stronger over the many years to come!
Warmly,
The Olker Wedding Photo Team
